Constitutional Monarchy

A system of government where a monarch (king or queen) is the head of state, but their powers are limited by a constitution and laws.

Explanation

In the UK, King Charles III is the head of state, but real political power rests with Parliament and the elected government. The monarch performs ceremonial duties, opens Parliament, and gives Royal Assent to laws, but does not make political decisions.

Example

The UK, Sweden, Spain, and Japan are all examples of constitutional monarchies.
