Devolution

The transfer of certain powers from the UK Parliament to the governments of Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

Explanation

Devolution allows Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland to make their own decisions on matters like health, education, and transport. The UK Parliament retains control of reserved matters including defence, foreign policy, and immigration.

Example

The Scottish Parliament can set different income tax rates from the rest of the UK because of devolution.
